Agriculture Technology Management Agency educates farmers on latest agro-techniques

R S PURA: Agriculture Technology Management Agency (ATMA), Jammu organised a training camp in the border village Karotana, near the international border in R. S Pura, which was attended by about one hundred farmers.
The training was organised by Dr. V. S Verma Project Director, B. B Sidha and Ravinder Kachroo Deputy Directors of ATMA for educating the farmers about the latest agro-techniques in the field of agriculture and allied sectors for increasing production and productivity of various crops.
Among others who attended the training camp were D. D Bhagat AEO, Kuldeep Singh, Dalbir Singh and Anshu Gupta JAEOs from Agriculture Department, Hans Raj, Pritam Lal, Joginder Lal and other progressive farmers. The farmers were educated about various agronomical and plant protection operations to be adopted for increasing production and productivity of wheat, the major Rabi crop of the area. Due to the ensuing threat of yellow rust of wheat crop, the farmers were cautioned to identity the disease and spray propiconazole as soon as it was detected in their fields. In view of large demand of wheat seed and the compulsion of the Agriculture Department for not being able to meet the entire demand of supplying quality seed to the area, farmers were educated about the methods for raising healthy, weed-free and disease-free crop for producing their own seed for the next season. The farmers were also educated for adopting ancillary occupations connected to agriculture for earning additional income, besides pouring in the food bowl of the country.
With a view to protect agricultural crops from huge losses by rats, a compressive strategy for rat control was elucidated and it was stressed that the rat control operation should be adopted at community level for complete eradication of rat menace. Besides agriculture, farmers were also educated about raising backyard poultry, honey bee-keeping, growing mushroom, tips for raising healthy cattle for increasing milk production.
The training camp was organised under the supervision of Chief Agriculture Officer, Jammu and District Agriculture Officer (Extension), Jammu with the coordination of S. K Garyali (AEO) and Sanyog Kotru (Research Assistant).
