POONCH: Additional District Development Commissioner Abdul Hamied reviewed the progress of preparation regarding the celebration of 69th National Voter’s Day in a meeting on Thursday.
The meeting was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner, Dr Basharat Hussain, SDM Surankote and SDM Mendhar, ACD, Chief Education Officers, Tehsildar Mandi and Mendhar, all BDOs, Prof. Jasbir Singh from Govt Degree College Poonch and Prof. Mehmood Ahamad from Degree College Surankote.
Discussion was held on the programmes and activities to be carried out on the day at District Hqrs, sub-division level, Tehsil level and even at booth level and Panchayat level in the district in order to generate awareness and to create a larger impact of greater participation on the voters for a stronger democracy at grass root level.
The meeting was informed that the celebration event will be held at Government Degree College, Poonch in collaboration with Education Department with active participation of civil society groups and media.
During the event, District Election Officer and his team will highlight various aspects of electoral system in order to popularise the concept and importance of electoral participation and advance the voter’s education to participate, which will be followed by debates, rallies , quiz competitions, views about the value of votes and symposium.
ADDC asked the concerned officers to carry out awareness programmes and other related activities at grass root levels in order to make the democratic system vibrant, inclusive and more participatory.
DEO was instructed to arrange and provide logistics required for the brief ceremonies and public functions at different levels, whereas AEROs were directed to set up a counter to register eligible voters during the event.
ADDC directed Tehsildars and BDOs to hold a joint meeting of BLOs, Patwaries, Panchayat Secretaries, Numberdars and Chowkidars for celebration of national Voter’s Day in every village.
The meeting was also informed that on the occasion of National Voter’s Day on 25th of Jan 2018, EPICS will be distributed; newly eligible voters would be registered and felicitated besides administering of pledges, rallies to be taken out at different levels to spread awareness for greater participation in electoral process in order to strengthen the roots of democracy.
