Accusing BJP of abandoning martyr families, Cong stages protest

VIJAYPUR: Accusing J and K Government of insulting martyrs, Congress on Saturday held a protest here demanding compensation for the kin of Defence Service Corp (DSC) employee who scarified his life while fighting terrorists in Air Force Base Pathankot.
The protest was led by former Minister and General Secretary JKPCC Manjit Singh. Congress workers assembled in SDM office Vijaypur and protested against the indifference of government towards the suffering of the martyr family of Mul Raj.
Raj, resident of Jakh Chandla (Vijaypur), was killed while fighting with Pak sponsored terrorists in Pathankot.
Manjit Singh alleged that BJP which used to pretend that it is more patriotic has abandoned the martyrs and Mul Raj is yet another case of this apathy.
“The family of Mul Raj was not given compensation like other states in India have regarded their martyrs and gave them adequate respect as well as compensation,” Singh said.
“Our government did not bother about the martyr family and offered no help,” the senior JKPCC leader said, further adding that no assurance was given to the family.
Similarly, he said, Naib Subedar Ram Singh was also killed in Manipur while fighting with naxalites but he too was ignored.
“The martyrs belonging to J and K are not respected like other States of the country which is unfortunate,” he said, and demanded that Rs 50 lakh compensation should be given to the martyr families. The Government should also provide education and give jobs to the children of martyrs.
Later, the Congress workers handed over a memorandum to Governor N.N Vohra through SDM Vijaypur. Babal Gupta, Bharat Bhushan, Capt. Harnam Singh, Capt. Mohan Lal Sharma, Ram Murti, Tilak Raj Sharma, Shamsher Singh Jamwal, Prabhdayal, Sajjaan Singh, Tirath Bhagat, Sukhdev Choudhary, Chander Shekhar Sharma and Mohan Lal also addressed the gathering.
