JAMMU: The maiden celebration of anniversary of signing of Instrument of Accession by Maharaja Hari Singh on October 26, 1947 marked the beginning of a new chapter in the polity of Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir with Government of India finally recognizing and giving credit to invaluable role which the last Dogra ruler played in integrating the erstwhile State of J&K with Indian dominion.
This was stated by former MLC, Vikramaditya Singh in a handout issued here on Monday. Congratulating all the countrymen especially the people of Jammu and Kashmir on Accession Day, Vikramaditya Singh said that sacrifices made by the Dogra State forces and Brig Rajinder Singh during the testing times of partition of the country are incredible and should always be remembered by one and all.
He made it clear that the celebration of Accession Day by the government is the testimony to the fact that Government of India has finally recognized the significant role of Maharaja Hari Singh in making J&K the crown of India and saving thousands of people from massacre and devastation which the tribesmen instigated by the Pakistani forces were hell-bent to carry out during partition.
The Dogra scion said that history has been created today with official celebrations taking place in J&K UT on Accession Day and the government declaring it a public holiday.
“With this, a long pending demand of people of erstwhile State of J&K has been fulfilled and they have been given an opportunity to celebrate the occasion wholeheartedly”, he averred adding that today is a special day for all the residents of J&K UT and even the UT of Ladakh as their sentiments are attached with this day, when they became part and parcel of India.
