Accession of Jammu and Kashmir with the dominion of India is a special event as during this event various rivalries began and for India, it became an opportunity to win the heart of the people of the princely state.
The signing of accession document with Indian dominion for the sake of security persistence by the maharaja of Jammu and Kashmir seems very confusing and was claimed that the document of accession was fake. Besides many of these doubts which stands on Indian government and of then princely state stakeholder’s. Karan Singh, the Maharaja’s son and then the heir apparent of J&K makes clear and framed it as : “Death and destruction were fast approaching Srinagar, our smug world had collapsed around us.”
According to official data, on October 26th, 1947, the Maharaja Hari Singh of J&K signed the instrument of accession with the dominion of India and from 2020, each year it is observed as a public holiday.
J&K’s Maharaja calls Indian dominion for help because the area of Kashmir was attacked by tribals and utmost casualties were recorded in Baramulla area of North Kashmir, where many of the residents had been killed. On the other day, indian troops arrived Kashmir with airlifting service and within the two weeks they stopped the invaders and maintained the harmony again.
By signing the document of accession ,Jammu and Kashmir provided three major governance sectors for handling to Indian government-Defense, communication and foreign affairs-which in real mean was a big deal and behind this the regional leadership have played an important role for alloting the high profile departments in the hands of newly joined union.
However, Article 370 as a special status was enlisted in Indian constitution in 1949,providing Jammu and Kashmir its own constitution and law generally and was allowing the said government to have certain degree of self- rule with bounded atmosphere as mentioned in the instrument of Accession.
These laws ,amendments of Acts, policies and orders got changed over the time, to strengthen the command of Indian govt over the region and sometimes it seems violent as abrogation of article 370 in 2019 was witnessed.Since abrogation of article in region in 2019 takes violent path and for many months communication was shutdowned as it was given to India during signing the accession of J&K.
The recapitulated scenario of J&K shows the whole political scenarios suffered from disturbances.
Instrument of Accession was just a document and an agreement between a union and a princely state and in recent time we are suffering from a healthcare facilities at district level healthcare services, quality and skilled education, security improvement, environmental issues and many other consequences but we are terming this day as celebration.
Moreover,we should commemorate this day with zeal and zest but need to improve our level of living, ideologies towards society especially towards empowering and educating teenagers and youngsters.
By terming this day as a public holiday it cannot fulfill the main Gist of the accession or post accession.Perhaps, newly elected government in the UT of Jammu and Kashmir should focus on improving education system, healthcare sector and should make sure that every individual whether local or non- local resident is safe under the boundaries of J&K.
Since after the abrogation various non-local residents and many locals were killed.Couple of days ago in Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal, seven infra workers were killed in an attack in which six were non-locals and other was a local doctor.
These happenings are very emotional and harsh to lbear but we are suffering from the terror attacks and lacking from developments and policies which are necessary in the Twenty-first century.
We can celebrate the day to commemorate the accession of J&K but what about those families especially whose wives was waiting for their husband or had ‘Vrath’ but their Charwa chauth turned in sorrow and tears?
