Accept demands else face hunger strike: Differently-abled persons

NOWSHERA:  Differently-abled persons of District Rajouri held a protest against the Social Welfare Department on the occasion of World Disability Day for not acceding to their demands as agreed to by  Governor N N Vohra as well as by the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti.

Senior Vice President of All Jammu and Kashmir Handicapped Welfare Association Vinod Sharma, who led the protest, said that if their demands are not acceded to within a period of 72 hours, the differently-abled persons will resort to hunger strike.   He said that they exhausted all the channels of approach but they could get nothing more than the assurances.

Sharma enumerated their demands which include reservation in professional schools, colleges and universities, exemption from payment of electricity and telephone bills, periodical survey of persons with disability, providing electronic wheel chairs and implementation of ‘Persons with Disability Act 2016’.

The protesters also handed over a memorandum of demands to SDM Nowshera addressed to the Chief Minister.
