JAMMU: The Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Wednesday arrested Mohd Saleem Bandey, Girdawar of Halqa Judda, Tehsil Arnas, District Reasi, for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 from a complainant.
A case bearing FIR No. 04/2026 under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, has been registered at Police Station ACB Udhampur.
According to an ACB spokesperson, the accused public servant had demanded illegal gratification in lieu of carrying out the demarcation of the complainant’s ancestral land – an official duty he was legally bound to perform without any monetary consideration.
“Acting on a written complaint, the Bureau conducted a discreet verification which substantiated the allegations of bribe demand. Subsequently, a formal case was registered and investigation was set into motion,” the spokesperson stated.
During the investigation, a specialized trap team headed by a Deputy Superintendent of Police was constituted. The team successfully laid a trap and apprehended the accused red-handed while demanding and accepting Rs 10,000 from the complainant in the presence of independent witnesses. The bribe amount was recovered from his possession on the spot, and he was arrested following due legal procedure.
The spokesperson further informed that a search of the accused’s residential premises at Sallian Talab, Udhampur, was also conducted in the presence of a Magistrate as per legal provisions. Notably, two FIRs were already registered against the accused at Police Station ACB Udhampur. Further investigation in the case is ongoing.
