JAMMU: J and K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages on Thursday condoled the demise of O.N Raina, nationally renowned Sitarist and former Senior Drama Instructor, Institute of Music and Fine Arts (IMPA), Jammu. He was 83.
Secretary, Haroon Rashid, while paying tributes, recalled the contribution of late O.N Raina during his service as senior instructor in the IMFA Jammu. He further said that being a master of Sitar, the students trained by O.N Raina now are well renowned instrumentalists.
Padamshree Dr. Jatindra Udhampuri, described his death as a void in the world of music which is difficult to fill.
Dr. Arvinder Singh Amn, Additional Secretary said that late Raina has the distinction of performing in many parts of the world including USA, South America and West Indies. He said that besides an artist, Raina has composed music for many Academy productions.
Others present in the condolence meeting were Dr. Sudhir Mahajan, Dr. Javed Rahi, Dr. Farooq Anwar Mirza, Azra Chowdhary, Ashok Gupta, S. Popinder Singh, Virender Koul, Dr. Rattan Basotra and staff of the Academy. A two minutes silence was also observed.
