According to sources, the meeting took place this evening and was attended by Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting (I&B) Rajyavardhan Rathore and I&B secretary Bimal Julka, apart from film personalities.
Filmmaker Mukesh Bhatt, who is president of ‘The Film and Television Producers Guild of India’, was also present.
In the meeting with Jaitley, who is also the Finance Minister, the film personalities favoured a system that promoted cinema. Matters related to entertainment tax and service tax were also mentioned, the sources said.
Functioning of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), an issue raised by many in the past, was also taken up during the meeting.
Sources said the government took note of the concerns of the film industry and mentioned that attempts were on to bring a Goods and Service Tax (GST) based system.
Speaking to PTI, Bhatt said the meeting went well and expressed hope that their concerns would be addressed.
