‘A heartfelt concern’

Dear Editor,
Apropos ‘Rise in Ischemic Heart Diseases in State’ (November 28), the rate of increase in ischematic heart disorders in the State is astounding, having more than doubled over the past 17 years. The major reason behind these shooting figures is smoking attributed to stress, while some amount of credit goes to the changed lifestyle. An increased preference for the junk and oily food items also take the blame for this.
Most cardiovascular diseases are avoidable, provided one takes the adequate measures for their well-being. Alas, the citizens of the State are profoundly callous regarding such diseases or even the related factors (diabetes, hypertension etc.) as a result of which they remain undiagnosed more often than not.
Thereby, it’s extremely necessary that one takes his/her health – both mental and physical – seriously.
