A chimera

Pitching  strongly for peace initiatives  between India and Pakistan to be taken further, Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti terming terrorism as the biggest threat and the money being used  for animosity  should be diverted  towards  betterment  of mankind, looks  quite humane. But ground realities are not the same  as we wish.  Today no religion is free from its scourge. The worst affected are the Muslim nations which have been caught in its own ideological war and Pakistan too is not free from this malady. But has the saner sense prevailed upon any nation? Politicians have their own agenda to flog around. Resumption of talks between India and Pakistan on any grounds looks uncertain. India has been providing Pakistan with evidence against elements operating from its soil involved in terror activities  like 26/11 Mumbai, Dinanagar , Pathankot attacks and many others. All the time Pakistan has remained in denial mode and has been taking one or the other alibi to stall the peace process. All the overtures and tough talks by the present BJP government in New Delhi has failed to bring in the required dividends. It went further and blamed India for fomenting trouble in northwest Balochistan area but has not been able to provide any evidence. Pakistan needs to learn lessons from its own follies. The subcontinent remains among the most dangerous corners of the world, and continues to pose a deep threat to global stability and the current world order. Their 1,800-mile border is the only place in the world where two hostile, nuclear-armed states face off every day. And the risk of nuclear conflict has only continued to rise in the past few years, to the point that it is now a very real possibility. India and Pakistan have fought three wars since they gained independence in 1947. Today, the disputed Line of Control that divides the region remains a particularly tense flashpoint. But the current arms race and acquisition of F-16 by it is a matter of concern in India. Top US  law makers have expressed concern  over  the US decision  to sell F-16 to Pakistan vindicating India’s apprehension  which can further trigger tension in the subcontinent. So where is the elusive peace which we have been looking for? Peace looks like a chimera at the moment.
