8 Chain hunger strike enters day 2 Coordination Committee vows to continue struggle till Jammu gets AIIMS

JAMMU: The chain hunger strike launched by AIIMS Coordination Committee (CC) for establishing AIIMS in Jammu, the cause which was supported by several other social, non-political and political parties entered the second day here at Maharaja Hari Singh Memorial near Tawi Bridge on Saturday.
Addressing the members and supporters, Chairman Coordination Committee and President Bar Association Jammu, Advocate Abhinav Sharma said that the adamant attitude adopted by the concerned authorities over the issue can escalate the situation and probably have the potential to vitiate the tranquility in the region.
Abhinav anticipated that the authorities would take cognisance of the developing situation in the region without losing a moment and help maintain peace in the region by conceding to the demands viz establishment of AIIMS in Jammu and timely completion of Artificial Lake on River Tawi. He further warned that the authorities could take the people of Jammu region for a ride only at their own peril.
Those who sat on chain hunger strike included JKHBA, Jammu, General Secretary, A.P Singh, Joint Secretary, Depesh Singh Pawar, President, Young Lawyers Association, Daljeet Singh, Suhasni Vasisatha, Pradeep Majotra, S.K Bhandari, V.S Saini, Rahul Sharma, M. S Qureshi, Neeraj Mengi, Vivek Sharma, Gurjeet Singh Wazir and Rajneesh Raina.
“People from various sections have joined the hunger strike in support of demand for setting up of an AIIMS. We will continue with this agitation till our demand is not met,” President Jammu Chamber of Commerce and Industries (JCCI) Rakesh Gupta said.
