7,000 new toilets under construction in JK schools: Khandey

SRINAGAR: Following the June 9 meeting taken by the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi to review the progress achieved under Swachh Vidyalaya programme, the Union Cabinet Secretary, Ajit Seth on Wednesday held a video conference with the Chief Secretaries to expedite the implementation of the vision regarding construction of toilets in all schools of the country within the stipulated timeframe.

Chief Secretary, J and K Iqbal Khandey informed the Union Cabinet Secretary that the State Government has taken up the construction of school toilets for both boys and girls on war-footing across all the three regions of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh. He said besides taking up new 7,000 constructions, work is also in progress for repairing as many as 4000 old and dysfunctional toilets in schools.

Principal Secretary Planning and development, B.R Sharma, Commissioner Secretary, School Education, Shaleen Kabra, Commissioner Secretary R&B, Rohit Kansal, Secretary, PHE, Parvez  A Malik, Director School Education, Kashmir, Deputy Commissioners of all the 22 Districts of State and other officers also participated in the video conference.
