70 pc of MTNL’s revenue goes to salaries and pension

New Delhi: MTNL spends 70 per cent of its revenue on salaries and pension of its staff which has affected its financial condition, Communications Minister Manoj Sinha told Rajya Sabha today.

Sinha gave this information while replying to questions.

During the Question Hour, he also said that the Cabinet has approved the revision of pension of BSNL pensioners, who retired prior to June 10, 2013 at par with serving employees of BSNL.

The number of such retired employees is over 1,18 lakh and the estimated annual expenditure comes to Rs 129.63 crore for pensioners and Rs 24.93 crore for family pensioners approximately, the minister said.

The estimated additional annual expenditure on this amounts to Rs 129.63 crore for pensioners and Rs 24.93 crore for famuly pensioners approximately, he added.

Arrears upto 2015-16 would be Rs 369.55 crores for pensioners and Rs 69.55 crore for family pensioners approximately, he said.
