SRINAGAR: Minister of State for Transport Sunil Kumar Sharma on Saturday said there are 5,57,921 commercial and Non-Commercial vehicles has been registered in all districts of the state in past five years.
Replying to a question of Dr. Shehnaz Ganai, the minister said many steps have been taken to regulate the traffic in two capital cities of the State.
He said adequate action is being taken for various traffic violations as deterrence to the violators. He said the service of cranes is being pressed for lifting of vehicles to check the menace of wrong parking and unauthorized roadside parking. He said the department has also hired six hydraulic cranes for the purpose of lifting of wrong parked vehicles.
Sharma said the department has also launched awareness campaigns to educate masses about traffic rules.
The minister said special anti-encroachment drives are also being launched by Jammu and Srinagar Municipal Corporations and District police to remove the illegal encroachments on roads and footpaths.
Sharma informed that Urban Development Department has developed 8 parking places in Jammu city and 16 spots in Srinagar city. He said that the life of 5353 private vehicles has been extended beyond fifteen years since 2013. He said that government has fixed 25 years the maximum life of commercial vehicles but these vehicles are to get a fitness certificate twice a year between the age of fifteen and twenty five years.
