5-match Cricket Evaluation Series begins;Jammu Rising Stars wins inaugural tie

JAMMU: Jammu Rising Stars registered win in the inaugural match of the Five-match Cricket Evaluation Series for Junior Cricketers, organised jointly by Jammu Sports Council and J and K Sports Promoters Club Jammu with the slogan ‘Sports Shall Live On’ at Parade Ground, here on Thursday.
In the opening match, Jammu Rising Stars defeated Vishal Jammu Kings by six wickets.
Batting first, Vishal Jammu Kings scored 121 runs for the loss of ten wickets in 23 overs. Sachin (33) and Akshit (13) were the main scorers. For Jammu Rising Stars, Samarpit claimed three wickets, Aditpal took two whereas Adhishwer Kotwal, Jugjap Singh, Laith August and Shiv Sagar shared one each.
In reply, Jammu Rising Stars achieved the target in 21 overs for the loss of four wickets. Shivansh (36), Aparjit (21), Jugjap (15) and Arya Sachivansh (11) were the main scorers. For Vishal Jammu, Umer Sadiq, Abhay Tondon, Dhruv Kumar and Praful Dhar shared apiece each. For his winning knock, Shivansh was adjudged Man of the Match.
The opening match was officiated by the technical panel comprising Sandeep Manchanda, Sanjay Manchanda and Vinod Kandayara. Earlier, the tournament was declared open by the Chief Guest, Ranjeet Kalra, Vice Chairman Jammu Sports Council in the presence of Guest of Honour, Vivek Shekhar Dy SP City North.
Speaking on the occasion, Kalra lauded the efforts of the organising team especially Organising Secretary Rajesh Gill, Chief Prosecuting Officer for conducting the series for the junior cricketers with the objective to provide opportunity to them and to analyse their regular performance in the matches. Rajesh Gill said that earlier 30 matches for these cricketers were conducted by organising team and this series is being organised with the motive to evaluate the individual performances of the participating junior cricketers.
“Further plans be initiated to conduct matches outside the State in professional academies so that our cricketers get maximum exposure,” he said.
“We have decided to conduct 200 matches for junior cricketers in coming 3-4 years and this series is the part of it,” he added.
