JAMMU: The 42nd Jammu District Kho Kho Championship 2024 for boys and girls, organized by the Jammu Kashmir Kho Kho Association and sponsored by the J&K Sports Council, was inaugurated by Chief Guest, DSP Kartik Shrotriya, IPS, at the Green Play Field, Gandhi Nagar, here on Saturday.
DSP Shrotriya praised the association and encouraged players to embrace Kho Kho, highlighting it as a quintessential Indian game.
He mentioned that sports like Kho Kho, Kabaddi, and Chess are being considered for inclusion in the Olympics by 2036 as part of the IOC’s efforts.
More than 200 players from Jammu District participated in the tournament, which has garnered significant attention and support from the local sports community.
The event saw notable figures including Guest of Honour Ranjit Chib, former SSP; Neeti Kour, General Secretary of the Master Games Association; and Special Guest Mahesh Abrol. General Secretary JKKKA Amrinder Pal Singh, Treasurer & International Player JKKKA Pankaj Malhotra, Joint Secretary JKKKA Tarmeet Shenu all of whom applauded the efforts of the players and association members in advancing the game of Kho Kho.
The semifinals and finals are scheduled for September 1, 2024. Jammu Sanskriti School to face APS – B and Parivartan Club to meet Oriental Academy in girls’ semifinals whereas in boys’ semifinals, Oneness Club shall meet NIS Club and SAI Club to face Parivartan Club.
The event was supported by prominent figures such as SBS Tirthi (Founder JKKKA), President Dr. Baljinder Kour, Manmeet Singh (Chairman RCE), Ajay Gupta (Coach JK Sports Council), and Anil Sharma (Manager JK Sports Council). Coaches and officials like Dheeraj Sharma,Sunil Sharma, Vikram Sharma, and others ensured smooth conduct of the matches.
The refereeing was handled by Ravinder Singh Bali (Convenor), along with Madhur Choudhary, Yogesh Kumar, Sahil Dev Singh, Sahil Angral, Sidharth Singh, Meenakshi Thakur, Deepak Kumar, David Sandhu, and Ajeet Pal Singh.
