JAMMU: The 40th Annual Athletics Meet of Sainik School Nagrota got off to a colourful start at Maj Somnath Sharma (PVC) Stadium of the School on Saturday. Following an impressive march past by the participating contingents, the athletic meet was declared open by the Chief Guest, Col Kapil Dev Koushal, Principal of the School.
During this annual competition, various track and field events will be held for the next three days amongst the three houses namely, Azad, Bhagat and Subhash in both junior as well as senior categories. Subsequent to the march past by the cadets, the athletic torch was lit by the Sports Captain Cadet Manjeet Singh who further administered oath to the contesting athletes.
The highlights of the first day’s events include 200 meters run and 3,000 meters run for juniors, shot put and discus throw for seniors. Cadet Pankaj Sharma of Subhash House clinched gold in 200 meters run for juniors while the School Captain Cadet Abdul Manan bagged gold in shot put for Bhagat House in senior category.
