4 Pak murder convicts hanged

Islamabad: At least four death-row prisoners were executed today in different jails of Punjab province in Pakistan, the government said.

The convicts were sent to the gallows in jails in Lahore, Faisalabad, Multan and Sahiwal.

An official from the interior ministry said that Ehsaan was executed in Kot Lakhpat jail in Lahore for murder.

He was sentenced by an anti-terrorism court and his appeals were rejected.

Mohammad Saleem was hanged in Faisalabad Central Jail for killing one of his cousins in 2004.

Abdul Ghaffar was executed in Multan Central Jail for killing three individuals, including his wife in 1990, while Wazir was hanged in Sahiwal Central Jail for committing a murder in Rajanpur in 1991.

Pakistan lifted the moratorium on the death penalty in December after the Taliban stormed an army school in Peshawar killing 150 people, including 136 children.

So far authorities have executed more than 100 convicts, which is a tiny fraction of about 8,000 death-row prisoners in Pakistan, according to the ministry of interior.
