Teenager killed, 6 other injured in road mishap at Doda

RAJOURI/JAMMU: Four people died and eight sustained critical injuries when their vehicle skidded off a road and rolled down a deep gorge in Rajouri district in the early hours of Wednesday, officials said.
The accident took place in the Thanamandi subdivision when the car was on its way to Bhangai village from Poonch, where the victims had gone to attend a funeral, they said.
The officials said the driver of the vehicle lost control over it on the Thanamandi Bhangai road hardly a few hundred metres from its destination.
Azad grieved over loss of lives in Rajouri accident
NEWDELHI: Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP) Chairman Ghulam Nabi Azad has expressed shock and grief over the loss of lives in a tragic road accident in Rajouri.
In a condolence message, Azad said: “Deeply saddened by the death of 4 lives in the tragic road accident at Bhangai Thanamandi in Rajouri district. I extend my condolences to members of the bereaved families & pray to almighty for eternal peace of the departed souls.”
Soon after learning about this devastating road accident, Azad asked party workers in the area to provide assistance to injured and victim families.
He has stressed on the administration to provide compensation to the next of kin of those killed in the accident and those who got injured in this road accident. Azad has prayed for speedy recovery of injured persons. Four persons died and eight got injured when a vehicle they were travelling in fell in the deep gorge.
“Twelve passengers in total were travelling in the vehicle at the time of the accident. All were rescued by locals and police and taken to the sub-district hospital in Thanamandi where four of them were declared brought dead,” a police official said. The deceased were identified as Shamim Akhtar (55), Rubina Kouser (35), Zarina Begum and Mohammad Younis (38), all residents of Bhangai.
Sub-Divisional Police Officer Thanamandi Imtiaz Ahmed said the injured have been referred to the GMC Associated Hospital in Rajouri.
He said a case under relevant sections of the law has been registered.
Deputy Commissioner, Rajouri, Vikas Kundal visited the District Hospital Kheora to know about the condition of passengers injured in the accident. He interacted with them and enquired about their well-being. He also directed the hospital authorities to provide all necessary medical assistance to the injured passengers.
The Deputy Commissioner expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased passengers and assured them of all possible support from the district administration. He also urged the concerned authorities to investigate the cause of the accident and take necessary measures to prevent such mishaps in the future.
Meanwhile, in tragic incident, a 14 years boy got killed, while 6 others injured after a vehicle they were travelling in skidded off the road and fell into gorge near Gowari area of Doda this afternoon.
While confirming the incident, ASP Bhadarwah Vinod Sharma said that a Tata Sumo (JK14C 7231), on way from Gowari to Kota Bhunecha on Gowari-Changa road, fell into deep gorge at Tawai bridge near Gowari area of Bhallesa in District Doda, after the driver lost control while negotiating a sharp curve.
ASP Bhadarwah said that Police, locals immediately reached the spot and shifted all 7 persons on board to CHC Changa, where doctors declared one 14 years old boy as brought dead, while 6 others are undergoing treatment.
The deceased has been identified as Sonu Kumar 14, son of Jamit Ram, resident of Bhuneecha.
The injured have been identified as Suman Kumar, son of Bansi Lal, resident of Bhunecha, Driver Waseem, son of Jaffer Hussain, resident of Soti, Mithun Kumar, son of Mahinder Singh, Ranjeeta Devi, wife of Hiomat Ram, resident of Bhunecha, Simple Kumar, son of Kuldeep Singh, resident of Kakoti and Kesar Singh, son of Jamit Ram, resident of Bhunecha.
“A Case vide FIR No 58/2023 U/S 279,337 IPC has been registered and investigation of the case is going on, ” ASP Vinod informed.
Later 3 seriously injured were shifted to GMC Doda for further treatment.
Meanwhile Vice-Chairperson DDC Doda Sangeeta Bhagat expressed shock over the loss of precious life and injury to 6 persons in the tragic incident which took place in Gowari area of Doda. She prayed for eternal peace to departed soul and early recovery to injured persons.
