JAMMU: In a major achievement under leadership of Principal Government Medical College Jammu, Dr Shashi Sharma, Department of Urology, SSH Jammu performed 3D-laparoscopic procedures for the first time in Jammu.
As per an official statement issued here, after availability of high-end laparoscopic equipment advanced procedures in urology (Kidney cancer, Kidney removal and urinary bladder cancer) were performed by Dr Elias Sharma, HOD Urology SSH Jammu along with his team including Dr Rahul Gupta, Dr Ajay Anand, Dr Muzain, Dr Anchal Kotwal and Dr Amit Manhas (Department of Anaesthesia, SSH Jammu). All the patients were discharged in stable condition.
The statement further read that though laparoscopic surgery was being performed routinely in Department of Urology SSH Jammu, but updating of Department and availability of new 3D-laparoscopy technology enhanced precision of complex surgical procedures. Now more complex minimally invasive surgery for urology diseases (Genitourinary cancer & urology reconstruction procedures) would be available in Jammu as 3D-laparoscopic equipment will facilitate complex surgeries with ease and better results. Moreover, it is pertinent to highlight that these surgeries would now be available at SSH for free for patients of Jammu and Kashmir UT. Such key-hole surgery allows minimal stay of patients in the hospital as they have very small scar and recover faster compared to open surgery. It would further take the services provided by Urology Department at SSH to new heights in Jammu region.
