JAMMU: The 37th JK UT Senior Volleyball Championship is currently underway in Jammu, showcasing some thrilling matches in both men’s and women’s categories.

On the second day of the championship, a total of 30 matches were played across two venues-M.A. Stadium and Play Field Shastri Nagar.
Over 500 players and officials from all across Jammu and Kashmir are participating, with 20 teams in the men’s section and 10 teams in the women’s section, making it one of the largest volleyball events in the region.
Jammu Women’s Volleyball team created a major highlight by advancing to the finals after a dominant 3-0 victory over Samba District. The team has displayed exceptional skill and determination, keeping pace with their male counterparts and showcasing the growing standard of women’s volleyball in the state.
The matches are being conducted as per the norms laid down by the Volleyball Federation of India (VFI), with league matches up to the quarterfinals played in best-of-three sets, while semifinals and finals will be conducted in five sets.
The championship also serves as a platform to promote important government initiatives such as Drug De-addiction and My Youth, My Pride, spreading awareness among young participants about the benefits of these schemes for their overall well-being.
Speaking at the event, Mandip Plania, OC Transit Camp BSF and the chief guest of the day, interacted with the players and encouraged them to maintain true sportsmanship, boosting morale across teams. Support from various organizations has been instrumental in the smooth conduct of the event.
Departments and institutions including J&K Excise, J&K Bank, NHPC, Chenab Valley Power Project Ltd, LIC of India, YES Bank, and State Times, along with educational institutions like JK Public School management, have actively collaborated with organizers.
The Monkey Ice Foundation has drawn attention with its instant injury relief services, providing on-the-spot care for injured players. The Directorate of Health Services, Jammu Municipal Corporation, and JK Armed Police have extended their full cooperation to ensure a safe and hassle-free championship.
The Volleyball Association of J&K, led by Kuldip Magotra (CEO), H.S. Gill (Executive Vice President), V.K. Magotra (Gen. Secretary), Romesh Sharma (Treasurer), and executive members from various district associations, are working tirelessly to ensure the success of the championship.
A dedicated panel of qualified referees is overseeing matches round-the-clock, ensuring fair play and smooth conduct of the tournament. The championship continues to attract large crowds, especially volleyball enthusiasts, who have been witnessing exciting matches late into the evening under floodlit courts despite chilly winter conditions.
