37th J&K UT Senior Volleyball Championship to start today

JAMMU: The 37th Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory Senior Volleyball Championship for Men and Women will be organised from December 15 to 17, 2025 at M.A. Stadium, Jammu, and the Shastri Nagar Play Field.

The prestigious championship is being conducted by the Volleyball Association of Jammu and Kashmir under the aegis of J&K Sports Council and is expected to witness enthusiastic participation from districts across the Union Territory. CEO, Volleyball Association of J&K, Kuldip Magotra said, “The championship aims to promote competitive volleyball, identify emerging talent, and strengthen the sporting culture among youth.” He stated that the event will provide a strong platform for players to showcase their skills and prepare for higher-level competitions.
“Volleyball has immense potential in Jammu and Kashmir, and such championships play a vital role in nurturing discipline, teamwork, and excellence among players,” Magotra said. For the men’s category, teams have been divided into four pools. Pool-A includes Jammu, Kupwara, Rajouri, Kulgam, and Reasi. Pool-B comprises Poonch, Budgam, Udhampur, Pulwama, and Ramban. Pool-C features Anantnag, Ganderbal, Samba, Shopian, Doda, and Bandipora, while Pool-D includes JKP, Srinagar, Kathua, Baramulla, and Kishtwar. In the women’s section, Pool-A consists of Jammu and Anantnag; Pool-B includes Udhampur, Shopian, and Ganderbal; Pool-C features Samba, Baramulla, and Rajouri; while Pool-D includes Srinagar and Poonch.
All matches will commence daily from 9:00 AM onwards. The CEO informed that teams must report in proper uniform with visible numbers and district names.
For the smooth conduct of 3-day Mega event with grand finale, the Association has sought the cooperation of stakeholders namely J&K Excise Deptt, J&K Bank, LIC of India, YES Bank, NHPC, Chenab Valley Power Projects Ltd, State Times, JK Public School Management.
The championship will be conducted strictly as per Volleyball Federation of India (VFI) rules, with referees’ decisions being final. League matches up to quarterfinals will be played in best of three sets, while semifinals and finals will be played in five sets. Flood lit Volleyball courts have been set up in the stadium for completion of all matches within a stipulated period of 3 days. Strict discipline on and off the field has been emphasized to ensure smooth conduct of the tournament.
