34th District Kathua Volleyball Championship begins

HIRANAGAR: Three-day-long 34th District Kathua Volleyball Championship for under-19 (boys & girls) being organised by District Volleyball Association Kathua under the aegis of Volleyball Association of Jammu and Kashmir commenced at Government Middle School Chhappar Volleyball Court, Hiranagar, here on Friday.

The championship, in which 18 boys teams and 4 girls teams of district Kathua are participating, was inaugurated by Sheetal Sharma, Sarpanch Gurah Mundian Panchayat.
Large number of people of surrounding area including Panchs and Sarpanchs were present at inaugural function.
Sudesh Kumar Sethu, a local social worker was the Guest of Honour.
Barinder Kaur Principal Indian Public School and Jayotsana senior lecturer Rajiv Gandhi College Kathua came from Kathua to encourage the players.
Besides all office-bearers of District Volleyball Association Kathua M.L.Toofan President, Surat Singh Vice-President, Mohinder Sharma General Secretary, Ram Lal Joint Secretary, other prominent persons present were Prince Mehta, Ram Tirath Khajuria, Rakesh Sharma, Kamal Sharma, Keshav Sharma, Parkash Chhand, Sham Lal (master), Daya Nand Mehta, Mohan Lal Naib Tehsildar (retd), Rakesh Mehta and Shashi Mehta President Chhappar Volleyball Club. A total of seven matches were played on inaugural day.
Today’s results: Hiranagar Club defeated Jai Data Ranpat Club Mela by 2-0 (25-14, 25-20); Gara Volleyball Club defeated Chandera Chak Club by 2-1 (25-20, 17-25, 16-14); Chhapar Mehta Club defeated Jai Baba Club Hiranagar by 2-1 (25-22, 19-15, 16-14); Volleyball Club Lower Mela defeated Volleyball Club Chadwal by 2-0 (25-18, 25-20).
