JAMMU: Excise Department on Saturday one bootlegger and recovered 3,100 Kg of Lahan, 130 bottles and 425 pouches of illicit liqour while conducting various raids in Kathua District. The sleuths of Kathua Excise Range along with the Excise Eradication Wing Jammu conducted series of raids in Kathua District under the command of ETO Kathua Excise Range, Sandeep Gupta, and ETO Eradication, Jammu, Suresh Sharma to arrest the menace of illicit distillation of liqour.
The team conducted series of raids in villages include Keengdayal, Sitdayal, Tarafsanji, Tanda, Jeerai, Jakhbardambra, Barnoti, Dhabwal, Chaba Chak, Banyari, Budhi, Sakta Chak, Veerso Chak, Kothyal and adjoining areas. In the process, a total of 3,100 Kg of Lahan, 130 bottles and 425 pouches of illicit liqour prepared from Lahan was recovered by the raiding teams and later destroyed on spot. The raiding team also recovered working stills used for preparation of illicit liquor which were also destroyed on spot. One person namely Makhan son of Rajinder Mashaha was arrested under Section 48 of the J&K Excise Act, 1958. The department has initiated multi-pronged strategy to arrest the menace of illicit distillation of liqour. Inspection teams have been activated and there shall be no laxity for those who violate the law.
