JAMMU: Excise Department on Wednesday foiled a major smuggling bid and recovered 2,100 Kg polythene from the truck at Toll Post Lakhanpur.
According to a report, a truck bearing registration No HR57-2014 reported at the Toll Post Lakhanpur for clearance on Wednesday morning at around 7:00 AM.
As per the documents, the vehicle was carrying 42 bags of cotton cloth vide Challan No.14515 dated October 19, 2017 consigned by M/s Mahi Trading Plot No 59/2 G.I.D.C to Bhat Fabrics, Srinagar. However, on physical checking, the vehicle was found loaded with 2,100 Kg of polythene. When the vehicle was put to physical check, the driver of the vehicle fled from the spot. The vehicle alongwith seized polythene has been handed over to Pollution Control Board, Kathua for taking further action under rules.
The whole operation was supervised by the Deputy Excise Commissioner, Vishesh Mahajan and carried out by Excise and Taxation Officers, Dr Varinder Gupta, Showkat Hyat Mattoo, Shehraz Ahmed, Sourabh Sharma, Sajad Sofi; Inspector Dheeraj Kumar, Mohd Younis; Sub Inspectors Surinder Bagal, Manvider Singh and Excise Guards, Tilak Raj, Riaz Ahmed and Dharam Singh.
The Excise Commissioner, Javed Ahmed Khan while complimenting Vishesh Mahajan and his team enjoined them to work even more hard with zeal and dedication to thwart the nefarious designs of smugglers in future also.
