KATHUA: More than 200 Srinagar bound truckers were provided relief and ration by district administration as the trucks have been held up at Lakhanpur for the last six days and drivers and cleaners carrying goods were running out of ration stocks. A team of medical officers was also deputed to check the health conditions of these people and provide medical assistance.
Food packets containing five Kg ration items and 100 ml mustard oil as well as other edibles was provided to each of the stranded truck on the highway. Team of officials comprised of Tehsildar Kathua and Assistant Director CAPD who reached out to all the stranded trucks and provided ration items. Meanwhile more than 20 families evacuated from Valley have been provided accommodation in Kathua by the district administration.
Deputy Commissioner Kathua Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary also dispatched five trucks of food items, drinking water and medicines for Valley. He has also issued appeal to all the sections of civil society, NGOs, business establishments and institutions to contribute for the relief being sent to affected areas in Poonch, Rajouri, Reasi and Udhampur where the airdropping of material could not be done and roads are still closed. Addl DC Parasanna Ramsawami is coordinating relief for stranded passengers and staff of trucks, buses on highway as well as the evacuated families stranded in the district.
Meanwhile, district administration in collaboration with Amritsar administration today dispatched 10,000 food packets and 25,000 blankets from Amritsar Airport to Srinagar for relief to flood affected families. Tehsildar Kathua Jatidner Mishra assisted DC Amritsar Ravi Bahagat for coordinating dispatch which was lifted by Indian Air Force helicopters from Amritsar at 10: 00 AM.
Relief material is being collected and dispatched by the district administration from areas of neighbouring states and within district through a number of organisations. The DC Kathua has issued appeal that any affected family or stranded passenger can approach the grievance redressal cell for immediate relief. Field revenue officials are also reaching out to all the villages of district where damages to residential houses have been reported and infrastructure damaged is being repaired by departments.
