200 cement bags meant for Seetli PHE plant seized at Nagrota TCP

Two brothers arrested for transporting consignment to Srinagar

STATE TIMES NEWS
JAMMU: In the aftermath of the suspension of IC/PP Narwal Sub Inspector Mehmood Khan for his ‘wrong doings’; the Police organisation seems to have got its act together.
Police Headquarter is reported to have taken serious note of the STATE TIMES expose and ordered all the ranks, especially Police Stations, not only to act but also be seen acting against criminals and anti-social activists.
Nagrota Police on Tuesday intercepted a truck, loaded with 200 cement bags at Nagrota TCP during the wee hours, thus exposing nexus between the Public Health Engineering (PHE) officers and contractors.
Two brothers who were transporting the PHE cement to Srinagar from Seetli water plant have been arrested while police is likely to nab PHE engineers for their involvement in black-marketing of government cement. The smuggled cement is reported to have been indented for Seetli PHE Plant but due to connivance it had been diverted to Srinagar after being sold clandestinely by unscrupulous elements.
The truck JK08A/7568 has been seized and Javad Iqbal and Mohd. Farooq, sons of Ghulam Hassian, resident of Phagla, Surankot, Poonch have been arrested.
FIR 111/16 under sections 406 & 409 RPC has been registered at Nagrota Police Station.
Police has also seized the PHE store record while both the accused during their interrogation have revealed that they were carrying the cement to Srinagar for supply to PHE.
Police, however, said, the cement was being taken either for sale in the open market or being delivered at the residence of some senior officer in Udhampur or Srinagar.
Police is scrutinizing the mobile call records of both the brothers to ascertain the truth.
Involvement of the senior PHE engineers cannot be ruled out, said police, adding that more arrests are likely to be made in a day or so.
Work at Seetli water plant is undergoing for the last few months. Thousands of cement bags have been supplied from the PHE store to this plant in the recent past. “we have seized the records for scrutiny,” police said.
