2 inter-state drug smugglers held in Samba; Rs 16 lakh cash, heroin seized

Jammu: Two interstate drug smugglers were arrested and recovered over Rs 16 lakh cash and heroin from them in Samba district, police said on Friday said.
The arrested interstate heroin suppliers have been identified as Harpreet Singh alias Raju alias Happy, son of Malkeet Singh and Ranjeet Singh alias Kalu, son of Darshan Singh, both residents of Devidass Pura Tehsil & District Amritsar. A case under relevant sections of NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Ghagwal and investigation started.
A police party comprising of ASI Rajeev Singh and SgCT Bahadur Singh under the supervision of PSI Vineet Singh Rakwal& SHO Ghagwal Bharat Bhushansignaled to stop a Punjab number vehicle Tata Nexon plying suspiciously from Samba towards Kathua side at very high speed at Tapyalnaka point but the driver tried to escape checking at naka point. However he was chased and stopped. The checking of the vehicle and personal search of the duo was conducted in the presence of Magistrate Charanjeet Singh Raina and gazetted police officer ( DySP Hqrs Mohd Usman ) following proper procedure, during which Indian Currency notes amounting to rupees 16,71,520.00 and Heroin (‘Chitta’) worth rupees twenty thousand (approximately) was recovered from their possession and seized on the spot. The investigation of the case is being monitored by Additional SP Samba Surinder Choudhary. Senior Superintendent of Police Samba Benam Tosh said that during the last two and half months, total 17 top suppliers of heroin (‘chitta’) including three lady heroin suppliers have been arrested in Samba District and action under law has been initiated against several other narco-suppliers involved in the illicit narco-trade.
