2 held with 31 kg poppy straw in Ramban

RAMBAN: Police on Tuesday arrested two drug peddlers and recovered 31 kg poppy straw from their possession.
According to a report, a police party of Police Station Ramban laid a Naka at National Highway near Shan Palace. During checking of vehicles, one Innova (PB09-C947), in which four persons were travelling, was signaled to stop for checking but sensing trouble, driver of the car accelerated the vehicle and left it abandoned near Karol Kundi. Police party chased the said vehicle and commenced search of passengers. During search, police apprehended two persons namely Manjeet son of Jilla Ram and Amanjot son of Thomas both residents of Laisarwalla, Tehsil and District Jallandhar. During the questioning it came to fore that two persons namely Mania son of Jagdish resident of Laiserwala and Sonu resident of Chabba District Hoshiarpur have escaped from the spot. During the search of said vehicle, 52 packets of poppy straw (weighing 31 Kg) was recovered which was concealed in the car. Accordingly, the accused were arrested and booked under FIR No. 16/2016 section 8/20 NDPS Act at Police Station Ramban. Search for absconders has been started by special police team.
The arrest has been made by Inspr. Vinod Kundal, SHO Police Station Ramban under the supervision of Rafiq Choudhary, Dy. SP Hqrs and Randeep Kumar, SSP Ramban.
