2 drug peddlers arrested, contraband seized

SRINAGAR: Two alleged drug peddlers were arrested on Wednesday and a large quantity of contraband substances recovered in south Kashmir’s Kulgam District, police said.
Abdul Qayoom and Ajaz Rather, residents of Ratnipora village of Kunzer, were in a truck which was intercepted by police at Upper Bazar Qazigund on Srinagar-Jammu National Highway, police said.
Following a tip-off, the vehicle was intercepted and a search was conducted which led to the recovery of 5,000 bottles of Codeine Phosphate and 1.29 lakh tablets, a senior police officer said.
The truck was seized and a case under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act was registered against the two arrested persons, he added.
A case FIR number 12/17 under Section 8/22 NDPS was registered against them and investigation was taken up.
