2 arrested for allegedly trafficking 10 girls

Kanpur: Ten girls, who were being taken to Delhi from Bhubaneswar to work as domestic workers, were rescued from a train and two youths were arrested in this connection, police said today.

Acting on a tip off, the railway police conducted a raid on Samparkranti Express when it arrived at the Kanpur central railway station around 9:30 last night and rescued 10 girls, including four minors, GRP in-charge Nandji Yadav said.

The two accused were taken to Government Railway Police station and are being interrogated while the girls were handed over to Childline India Foundation, Yadav said, adding that the family members of the girls have also been informed.

Prima facie it appears to be a case of human trafficking but investigations are underway in this regard, he said.
