Drug peddler held with over 2 kg charas in Reasi

JAMMU: Security forces on Wednesday seized narcotics weighing 2.5 kg from a forward village near the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district, officials said.
They said the contraband, believed to be high-grade heroin worth crores of rupees in the international market, was smuggled from across the border, adding that it was found dumped in the Malti area ahead of the border fence.
A search operation is underway and further details are awaited, the officials said.
Meanwhile, an alleged drug peddler was arrested after 2.24 kg of charas was recovered from his possession in Reasi district, police said.
Javed Ahmad, a resident of Melhoora village in Shopian district, was travelling in a private car from Reasi to Bhambla when police intercepted him in the Domail area, leading to the recovery of the contraband, a police spokesperson said. He said the cannabis was found wrapped inside maize husks and kept hidden in window panels of the car.
A case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act has been registered against the accused, the spokesperson said.
