Dear Editor,
China’s rejection of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, soon after citing rules to oppose India’s membership of the Nuclear Suppliers’ Group, exposes it to the charge of hypocrisy. The outright rejection of the verdict by China, which maintained at the highest levels that the five judges of the Tribunal were one-sided and biased, can sooner or later lead to a test of wills between an increasingly assertive China and the rest of the world. Meanwhile, India has done well to ask China to respect the verdict. India cannot, and should not forget the Chinese perfidies.
