JAMMU: After facing nature’s fury, the Power Development Department in Jammu region is facing tough times ahead.
In the absence of timely repairs of faulty transformers, the PDD engineers are struggling to pacify the angry consumers, who are forced to struggle to beat the humid weather conditions while reeling under acute scarcity of power supply.
At many places people are coming out on the streets to highlight their genuine problems due to prolong power curtailments. On an average, l villagers have to wait for more than 48-72 hours to get their damaged transformers replaced.
According to official sources, around 200 transformers suffered maximum damages and out of this at least 60 were completely damaged across Jammu region during summer season so far.
Over 50 transformers, installed in Jammu, R. S Pura, Bishnah, Chinore Farm and in the neighboring areas were damaged while around 25 were damaged across villages in Samba, 10 in Poonch, 40 in Udhampur, 5 in Rajori, 10 in Reasi,16 in Doda, 8 in Kishtwar and 10 in Batote.
Deputy Chief Minister Prof Nirmal Singh had instructed the PDD engineers to accord top priority to the repair of faulty transformers so that power supply can be restored at the earliest in worst affected areas.
Senior PDD officers claimed the department had created Transformer Bank in the State to replace faculty transformers but due to increasing number of transformers developing fault due to overload and heat wave conditions, it was not possible to replace them on the same day.
The PDD officials also claimed that at least 60 transformers were completely damaged while almost equal numbers were replaced after carrying out repair work. The rest of the transformers were kept in the repair centre for necessary repairs.
