JAMMU: KC Public School organised 17th Annual Sports Day in a grand manner in the school ground on Sunday.
Principal Secretary, Planning and Development, Government of Jammu and Kashmir, B.R Sharma was the Chief Guest and Municipal Commissioner, Jammu, Kiran Wattal was the Guest of Honour on the occasion.
Also present were Raju Chowdhary, Vice Chairman and Arti Chowdhary, Director of Junior School.
The function started with the unfurling of the National Flag by the Chief Guest after which the contingents of athletes from four Houses of the school marched past the saluting base in a colourful parade to the accompaniment of the Saare Jahan Se Acchha tune played by the school brass band.
The School Principal, Amarendra Mishra delivered welcome address. It was followed by mass PT display by about 500 children of the school set in synch with Michael Jackson’s They Don’t Care About Us. The next item was a winsome drill display by senior girls of the school.
The main events of the day were 15 final track races for both boys and girls under different age categories.
All the races displayed fierce competition among the participants and evoked vociferous cheering from the spectators.
At the end of the athletic events, a large number of boys and girls put up an impressive show of Taekwondo and brought forth the significance of martial arts in self defence, especially for women.
The Chief Guest and the Guest of Honour gave away medals to the athletes and also distributed Rolls of Honour conferred on students for their outstanding performance in academics and sports.
The tug-of-war between parents and teachers of the school was also held which caused immense amusement among the spectators. The children of the school displayed their skills in roller skating by making interesting formations on the basketball court used for the display.
The event was followed by presentation of vote of thanks by Raju Chowdhary, the Vice Chairman of the KC Educational Society.
The grand finale was choreographed dance performance by more than one thousand girls and boys of the school which left the spectators spell-bound.
The Chief Guest and the Guest of Honour put in their words of appreciation for the school and its management for maintaining and sustaining high standards in school education and for providing world class quality education to the children of the entire state of Jammu and Kashmir. They also praised the children and their teachers for their outstanding performance in the programme presented on the occasion. The function concluded with the National Anthem.
