Weather Gods bring down mercury, bring back smiles

STATE TIMES NEWS
JAMMU: Weather Gods on Friday relented once again bringing down soaring mercury levels and bringing back smiles on the faces of local residents in Jammu and adjoining areas.
Due to fresh spell of mild showers, dubbed as pre-monsoon showers, the mercury level was brought down considerably giving much needed respite to the ‘power’ hungry population.
Till Friday afternoon the blazing sun was in full bloom but in the post noon session dark clouds covered the city skyline followed by spell of fresh showers. Most of the people on the streets and in market places were seen enjoying the fresh showers.
“These were pre-monsoon showers and till the end of this month, showers will occur after the temperature rises,” Dr Sonam Lotus, Director, MeT J&K said. He said the monsoon may hit Jammu and Kashmir in July first week but till then, showers may hit the region.
Jammu witnessed maximum 43.6 degrees Celsius temperature this season while since May end, the mercury fluctuated between 40 degrees to 42 degrees.
Children enjoyed the rain while waterlogged roads halted the vehicular movement.
