ICCR hosts musical programme ‘Jeevan Sharma Live’

JAMMU: Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), Ministry of External Affairs Government of India under its regular programme Horizon Series organised a musical programme entitled ‘Jeevan Sharma Live’ at village Palanwala featuring one of the most celebrated singer and composer of the State.
Introducing the programme, Regional Director of ICCR Jammu, Balwant Thakur informed though the objectives of the ICCR are to participate in the formulation and implementation of the policies and programmes relating to India’s external cultural relations; to foster and strengthen cultural relations and understanding between India and other countries; to promote cultural exchanges with other countries and people; to establish develop relations with national and international organisations in the field of culture.
Giving a brief sketch of the singer, Balwant Thakur informed that Jeevan Sharma is one of the most celebrated singer of the State who is credited of having accompanied legendary singers like Aasha Bhonsle and have been honoured numerously in the singing competitions organised by J&K Cultural Academy and association of Indian Universities. Having performed in Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand Jeevan has extensively travelled to spread the fragrance of his art through his soulful singing.
Jeevan started his singing from Dogri folk and transported the audience along to a journey of diverse range of singing styles which included, Sufi, Ghazal, Geet and semi classical. His all-time hit song “Jammu Meri Jind Kashmir Meri Jaan Eh” won repeated applauses.
Jeevan Sharma was accompanied by yet another celebrated musician Ravi Sharma on Santoor. Credited for having performed Internationally, Ravi Sharma also presented his solo items and vibrated the entire environment musically with his favourite Pahari tunes. Neeraj Verma accompanied both the musicians on Tabla and won repeated appreciation for his intelligent and most appropriate accompaniment.
