JAMMU: Vulnerability of Jammu roads unfolded in a horrendous mishap on Monday when reckless driving by a Matador driver snatched life of a young student in Talab Tillo area while her sibling is struggling for life in the Government Medical College Hospital here.
The tragic accident happened near Poonch House in Talab Tillo area moments after both students of JK Montessori High School de boarded the school bus to return home.
While they were both crossing the road an over speeding Matador, driven recklessly by the driver, hit the innocent children and threw them away. Bleeding profusely the children were shifted to Government Medical College Hospital by the locals of the area, where the elder sibling, identified as Janvi Gupta, daughter of Naresh Gupta succumbed to her critical injuries while younger brother identified as Rishu Gupta was struggling for life.
Monday’s incident has once again exposed the ugly nexus between the Matador drivers and the traffic cops deployed on the roads as they ignore their wrong doings and allow them to play with the life of passengers instead of penalising them.
The Talab Tillo stretch in particular has become a dangerous zone with matador drivers enjoying impunity while the ‘Men in Blues’ can be found looking to other side for obvious reasons. The people of the area had been complaining about connivance between the road abusers and the road managers that has made risky the life of commuters and pedestrians.
The hapless parents of both the young students were crestfallen and wept inconsolably in the hospital premises. Meanwhile, to register their anger against the Matador drivers and insensitive traffic cops the local residents and shop keepers staged a protest in Talab Tillo area seeking strict action against the guilty driver. Police is learnt to have arrested the driver of the Matador to complete necessary investigation in the case.
