EC decides to censure Trinammol leader

New Delhi:- The Election Commission today decided to “censure” a Trinamool Congress leader in West Bengal for making certain utterances against a woman BJP candidate and asked him to be careful in future.

The Commission asked the Chief Electoral Officer of West Bengal to “censure” Anubrata Mondal, president of Trinamool Congress’ Birbhum district for violating provisions of the Model Code of Conduct as it found his reply to a show cause notice “unsatisfactory”.

Addressing a public meeting at Mayureswar assembly constituency, Mondal had reportedly made certain utterances against Locket Chatterjee, a BJP candidate, by describing her as “dolchut mal” (broadly translated as a party deserter).

EC said the Trinamool Congress leader should be “extremely careful” of his public utterances during the election period.

It said his party should also be asked to “instruct” him not to violate the model code.
