Prez rule in Arunachal: CPI slams BJP

New Delhi:- Expressing concerns over Union Cabinet’s decision to recommend President’s rule in Arunachal Pradesh, CPI today accused BJP of creating political turmoil in the state to get “entry” there and urged President Pranab Mukherjee to question the Government in this regard.

“The Council of Ministers thinks a situation has been created in the state for President’s rule. The BJP should be held responsible for such a state of affairs in Arunachal Pradesh which is a very sensitive and strategic border state.

“It flouted all Parliamentary democracy norms to topple the state government and create conditions for its entry,” CPI national secretary D Raja said.

Raja urged the President to question the government on the issue to know the Cabinet’s justification behind recommending central rule.

“President being one of the senior statesmen of the country, he must question the recommendation of Council of Ministers. What is the justification in recommending the central rule?” the Rajya Sabha MP asked.

The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, had yesterday recommended imposition of President’s Rule in the north-eastern state.

Arunachal Pradesh was rocked by a political crisis on December 16 last year as 21 rebel Congress MLAs joined hands with 11 of BJP and two independents to ‘impeach’ Assembly Speaker Nabam Rebia at a makeshift venue, in a move branded as “illegal and unconstitutional” by the Speaker.

The decision by the Centre came at a time when Supreme Court is hearing petitions on the political crisis.
