“When Parliament can be stalled for days on other issues, why can’t it be stopped on death of farmers and compensation, loan waiver and development of Bundelkhand in the coming session,” Vivek Singh, MLA from Banda, which falls in the region, said in a letter to Gandhi.
“Parliament should not be allowed to function till people of Bundelkhand get their due,” he said, asking his party vice president to force the government to convene a meeting of people’s representatives from Bundelkhand to immediately resolve their problems.
Singh regretted that despite thousands of people losing their lives in Bundelkhand, representatives of these areas have never raised major issues concerning the people.
Referring to Gandhi’s scheduled visit on January 23, Singh drew his attention to certain problems in the region and made suggestions as to how they can be resolved.
He demanded immediate check on rampant illegal mining by deploying para-military force, transfer of officials who have stayed put there for years and a CBI or ED probe into the assets of those involved in illegal mining or irregularities in food grain distribution system.
A few days back, Rahul had tweeted that he will be in Bundelkhand to meet drought affected farmers.
