Patwari lands in Vigilance net; caught red handed

SRINAGAR: The State Vigilance Organisation (SVO) on Tuesday caught red handed Showket Ahmad Sofi, resident of Chatabal, Srinagar Patwari Halqa Natipora, Srinagar and Abdul Rashid Dar, son of Ali Mohammad Dar, resident of Natipora (orderly) while demanding and accepting bribe for issuing revenue extracts.
During the personal search of both the accused Rs. 45,000 were recovered.
The complainant Faisal Lateef, son of Mohammad Lateef, resident of Mehjoor Nagar Srinagar, lodged a complaint with Police Station SVO Kashmir, stating therein that his maternal uncle was transferring a piece of land in his favour at Mhjoor Nagar for which revenue extracts of the said land were required.
The Patwari in turn demanded bribe amount Rs. 3500 from for preparation of the necessary documents and received Rs. 1500 in the first instance.
On receipt of the complaint, FIR 02/2016 P/S under Section 5 (2) J & K Prevention of Corruption Act Svt. 2006 read with 161 RPC was registered and investigation taken up.
The trap team headed by Dy. SP Mushtaq Ahmad, laid a trap in which Patwari Halqa Natipora Srinagar namely Showket Ahmad Sofi along with his assistant Ab. Rashid Dar were caught red handed while demanding and accepting Rs 2000 as bribe. The bait money was recovered from their possession along with previous amount of Rs. 1500. Both the accused were arrested on the spot. The entire proceedings were conducted in presence of an independent witness.
