Trucker arrested with 28 kg poppy straw

BANIHAL: Police on Wednesday arrested a trucker and recovered 28 kg poppy straw from his possession.
According to a report, acting on a specific information, a police party led by SI Mohd Irfan Wani, IC Police Post Jawahar Tunnel laid a Naka at National Highway near Tethar Gundl. During checking, police party signalled a truck to stop for checking but the driver accelerated the vehicle and managed to flee from the Naka. After a short distance, said truck (PB11BN/ 0419) was intercepted, which was driven by driver Onkar Singh son of Darshan Singh resident of Mondia Paramjeet Nagar Teh and Distt Ludhiana Punjab, on way from Valley to Punjab. During checking of the vehicle, two plastic bags containing 15Kg and 13kg of poppy straw in two bags (total 28kg poppy straw) was recovered from the possession of driver. A case under FIR no 03/16 section 8/15 NDPS Act was registered in Police Station Banihal. Accused has been arrested and vehicle seized.
The arrest has been made by SI Mohd Irfan Wani, In Charge Police Pots Banihal in coordination with Inspr. Nazir Ahmed SHO Police Station Banihal under the supervision of Mohd Rafiq, SDPO Banihal and Randeep Kumar, SSP Ramban.
