JAMMU: The Parkash Utsav of Guru Gobind Singh, 10th Sikh Guru was celebrated with great enthusiasm, religious fervour and gaiety by people across the State on Tuesday.
In Jammu, Gurdwaras and other religious places of Sikhs were decorated as hundreds of devotees thronged these and offered special prayers throughout the day.
The major function was organised at Gurdwara Yadgaar Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji, Chand Nagar Jammu by District Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee.
On the occasion, Hazoori Ragi Sri Darbar Sahib Bhai Shokeen Singh and other local Ragi Jatthas recited Gurbani Kirtan.
Vice Chancellor, Punjabi University Patiala and former Ambassador, Dr. Jaspal Singh, in his speech, threw light on the life and achievements of Guru Gobind Singh Ji for Khasla Panth and entire humanity.
Dr Jaspal Singh concluded that the preaching of Guru Gobind Singh Ji and the message of Guru Granth Sahib can save the today’s burning world for peace and humanity.
Another prominent international preacher Sarabjit Singh Dhunda (Gurmat Gyan Mission College Ludhiana) also threw light on the revolutionary life and teaching of Guru Gobind Singh Ji. He also stressed on following the message of Guru Granth Sahib and to strengthen unified Sikh Rehat Maryada.
Sant Tejwant Singh prominent Sikh preacher of Jammu and Kashmir, while addressing the gathering, exhorted the Sikh Community to strengthen the message of Guru Gobind Singh Ji for unity.
On this occasion resolutions concerning religious and political aspirations and problems of minority Sikh Community were presented by Advocate Surinder Singh former President DGPC Jammu.
T.S Wazir, President J&K State Gurdwara Parbhandak Board elaborated in detail over these resolutions and assured the gathering to continue to fight for the cause of Sikh Community.
Deputy Chief Minister Dr Nirmal Singh accompanied by MLC Charanjeet Singh Khalsa and Mamta Singh also attended the Gurpurab celebrations at Chand Nagar.
While referring to the demands raised by the people present, the Deputy Chief Minister said the he would take up the issue of setting up of Shri Guru Gobind Singh Chair in Jammu University with the Union Human Resources Development Ministry so that this long pending demand is addressed. He said the government would also take up the matter of introducing Punjabi subject in schools and colleges with the concerned.
MLC, Charanjeet Singh Khalsa also spoke on the occasion and highlighted the historic contribution of Guru.
Another impressive function was held at Digiana Ashram, where the community leaders threw light on the life and sacrifices of Guru Gobind Singh and asked the Sangat to follow the path shown by him. Another function was organised at Nanak Nagar Gurdwara. Langars (community kitchen) were organised for devotees. Several newly elected MLAs also attended the function and extended their greetings to the community.
Meanwhile, Gurpurab was celebrated with gaiety by the Management Committee, Gurdwara Baba Chanda Singh Ji, Jain Bazar, Jammu and Nirvair Social Organization at the Gurdwara premises. In this regard, an impressive Kirtan Darbar was organised.
Bhai Surjeet Singh and Jatha, Bhai Sukhdev Singh Singh, Parveen Singh held Shabad Kirtan.
Sukhbir Singh, President Management Committee Gurdwara Baba Chanda Singh highlighted various demands of Sikhs including naming of Kunjwani Chowk as Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Chowk, removing municipality shops at Chand Nagar falling in the precincts of historical Gurdwara Yaadgar Guru Nanak Devji, providing Punjabi language teachers in government schools, etc.
Office bearers of management committee including Gurmeet Singh, Surinder Singh Shinda, Amarjeet Singh, Dr. Tejinder Singh, Gurnam Singh, Jagdeep Singh, Shahbaz Singh, Jagbir Singh, Jagjeet Singh, Surjeet Singh, Raj Kumar and Love Kumar were also present.
Meanwhile, Government Ayurvedic Hospital, Jammu held a free medical camp on the occasion of Parkash Utsav of Guru Gobind Singh Ji at Gurdwara Guru Nanak Dev Ji Chand Nagar Jammu.
In this camp, 969 patients attended the camp. Free Medicines were also distributed on the occasion.
Dr. Taran Singh Incharge Medical Superintendent of Government Ayurvedic Hospital Jammu was also spoke on the occasion.
