11-yr-old Arjunveer’s poetry on preventing child suicide & Covid-19 bags international award

JAMMU: Arjunveer Singh, a child prodigy with a beautiful and creative mind and a student of VIIth standard in Air Force School Jammu, brought laurels to Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir by winning international poetry award in Grow Your Buds Poetry Rendition Contest – for his poem on ‘killer Corona and rising teen suicide’.
This contest was organised by Motivational Strips-the world’s most active writer’s forum and reputed educational trust- Soundariya Educational Trust. Hundreds of children across the globe participated in this contest. However, Arjunveer Singh with his creative poetic expressions bagged first prize.
The jury members comprised of eminent writes across globe Mary Lynn Luiz (USA), Dr Raja Rajeswari Seetha Raman (Malaysia), Penny Wobbly (UK), Nivedita Roy (Bahrain) and Samuella Conteh (Sierra Leone). His poem – Masked Life – about changing life style due to killer Corona, highlights importance of mask in our day today life. However, in last stanza of his poem Arjunveer, lays stress on importance of emotional connect while maintaining social distance.
Another poem – Never Say Never Again – is about rising teen suicide. Positive message that this poem carried was enough to impress jury members. Aim behind this poetic expression is to prepare youngster to fight against all odds to live life king size. “Aside from telling your life story, poetry can be used to teach others important facts and information about serious issues. And I write a simple poem to highlight issues staring at us,” explained Arjunveer Singh.
Both these poems are now published in a book – The Bugeons – co authored by him. Besides these poem his short story Mom – My Angel has also been published.
Earlier also he has participated in several competitions and won accolades at national and regional levels. His consistent performance has shorn through in creative arts with Arjunveer bagging 1st prize in Oct 2014 and in May 2016 inter school poetry competition at regional level. In July 20, 2014, Arjunveer was selected by Kapsons as child ambassador to walk on ramp with models of international repute. In 2019 Arjunveer participated in Mental Maths and Rubics Cube competition organised by Radio Mirchi. He bagged first prize by solving all puzzles with lightening speed. Besides literary activities, Arjunveer bagged first prize in 2015 and 2019 inter-state Mental Maths competition. He proved his mettle again by winning first prize during International Abacus competition in Level 1 category in 2017, and again in Level 2 category in 2019. In 2021, he got 3rd rank in International Abacus Competition in level 6. Over 10 lakh students, from different parts of world, had participated in this competition. Arjunveer has mesmerized audience with his performance while playing Casio during Symphony 2015 function where he again got the first prize and often performs for orphan kids during Diwali and other functions to bring smile on their face.
