JAMMU: Eleven alleged bovine smugglers were arrested and 54 animals were rescued in separate incidents in Jammu and Kashmir’s Samba district, officials said.
Police teams intercepted five trucks at Ghagwal, Mansar, Supwal, Rakh Amb and Rajpura areas in the district, they said.
The trucks have been seized and FIRs lodged against the smugglers, they said, adding that two women were also among the arrested.
Those arrested have been identified as Bahar Ahmed Sohail, Mohd Riyaz, Irshad Ahmed, Liaqat Ali, Asif Ali Chowan, Anwar Hussain, Saleema, Veena Akhtar, Mohd Veer, Talib Hussain and Yasir Ali, they said.
They belong to R S Pura & Suchetgarh, Anantnag, Punjab, Kathua, Banihal Ramban, Krimnchi Udhampur, Samba and are professional bovine smugglers who used to smuggle animals from different areas of Jammu, Kathua and Samba to Kashmir Valley, officials added. (PTI)
