New Delhi: This year has been a “bloody” one for militancy-hit Jammu and Kashmir which saw 103 militants being killed and 31 Army personnel martyred.
This is a rise from 2013, when only 65 militants were killed while 50 security personnel laid down their lives, official sources said.
This year’s figures take into account the killing of militants and Army personnel in Uri encounter that ended on Friday.
“It has been a bloody year so far. The number of militants killed since last year has gone up. In the process, 31 of our own men have been martyred,” sources said.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted saying today’s attacks in J&K are condemnable.
“There are desperate attempts to derail the atmosphere of hope & goodwill as seen by increased voter turnout,” he tweeted.
He said that 25 crore Indians bow to brave Armymen who sacrificed their lives.
“These men lived & died for the nation. We won’t forget them,” he tweeted. (PTI)
