100 Kg Lahan destroyed, one held

JAMMU: Excise Department Jammu on Monday conducted raids at several villages of R.S Pura and destroyed 100 Kg of Lahan and arrested one person in this connection.
The Excise Team Jammu South under the command of ETO, Nayeem Moghal and ETO Eradication Wing Jammu Suresh Sharma raided Deoli, Makhanpur, Salehar, Dableh, Kothey, Bulandae, Rehal and Kriel Manhasa areas of R.S Pura and recovered more than 100 KG of Lahan and two bottles of illicit liquor made from Lahan. The consignment was destroyed on the spot. One person namely Singar Singh, son of Bajan Singh, resident of Makhanpur was arrested under Section 48 of the J&K Excise Act by the raiding team. The entire operation was held under the active supervision of Deputy Excise Commissioner (Executive), Jammu Mohammed Shahid Saleem.Meanwhile, the Excise Team Kishtwar in a joint operation with district Police Kishtwar conducted series of raids in Cherhar, Lower Cherhar and Paddar areas of district Kishtwar, to arrest the menace of illicit cultivation of poppy crop, under the command of ETO, Doda-Kishtwar-Ramban Excise Range Gurdev Kumar and Excise Inspector Towseef Mustafa. The team destroyed poppy crop on two kanals of land. SSP Kishtwar Sundip Wazir also extended support in the operation. The Excise Department has also started Bhang destruction in the Kathua region of Jammu division in close coordination with J&K Police and other agencies. Similar action against poppy cultivation has been launched by Excise Department Kashmir in Kashmir Valley.
