JAMMU: President of the National Mazdoor Conference (NMC) Subash Shastri on Sunday emphasised the need for immediate amendment to the SRO 64 and appealed to the Chief Minister and Finance Minister to formulate a comprehensive policy for regularization of 60,000 Daily Rated Workers (DRWs), casual/seasonal labourers engaged in various departments of the State Government after 31st March, 1994.

He urged Chief Minister to look into this matter personally so that these daily rated workers may be regularised before the enforcement of Model Code of Conduct due to ensuing civic elections in the State.

He added that the forthcoming civic elections will be acid test for the PDP-BJP led Coalition Government and its acclaimed people friendly policies and programmes.

Talking to reporters here, Shastri, said that 61,000 families  are involved with these daily rated workers forming part of State electorate and these voters are likely to play major role in the forthcoming civic  elections.

Shastri said that early amendment to the SRO 64 was the need of the hour, which would affect about 61,000 daily rated workers of various departments of the State Government.

Shastri said he hoped the Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, and Finance Minister Haseeb Drabu would consider the long-pending demands of the daily wagers and take a decision in this regard at the earliest.

While expressing grave concern over the non disbursement of wages of daily rated workers working in various departments of the State Govt., Shastri demanded creation of separate heads in all departments and budgetary allocations made separately for their regularisation,  so that these daily rated workers are able to get their monthly wages regularly and on first day of every month.

Shastri also demanded early release of 6 per cent Dearness Allowance (DA) due from January last in favour of the State Government employees and pensioners in view of inflation.

He said the State Government had already earmarked funds for the purpose in the current year’s financial budget and stressed that since DA is the part of salary, pending 6 per cent DA installment should be released well before Eid-ul-Fitr festival.

Among others those present on the occasion were Rajan Babu Khajuria, Surinder Kumar, Karnail Singh, Sukhdev Singh, Subhash Sharma, Barkat Ram Tarsem, Paramjeet, Sudesh Kumar, Bhupinder Singh, Sunil Kochhar and Sham Lal.
